Ecological consulting for planning, development, and infrastructure across the Republic of Ireland

T•eire

A play on the words Terra – Latin for land – and Éire – Irish for Ireland.

Historically, development has come at the expense of nature. At a time when Ireland faces significant pressures around housing, infrastructure, and climate, it is imperative that development proceeds in tandem with nature, and not in opposition to it. Teire is an ecological consultancy, providing clear, practical ecological advice to architects, engineers, planners, local authorities, and private developers to aid projects through the planning process, while meeting ecological and legislative requirements.

Services include protected species surveys, ecological assessments, and planning support from early site constraints through to reporting and mitigation design. Teire’s work is grounded in a pragmatic understanding of how projects progress through Irish planning and legislative systems. Teire’s philosophy is that nature and development need not be in opposition. The right action in the right place can save headaches and time for decision makers and future users alike, while providing meaningful ecological enhancement. A flat roof feature on those new residential units by the sea may well provide nesting opportunity for gulls, but at the cost of squawking that will wake every toddler in earshot. Perhaps a patch of unmown grass to provide nesting habitat for the meadow pipit is a better fit?

Teire focuses on practical, site-appropriate solutions that allow development to proceed efficiently, while delivering genuine benefits for biodiversity.

Surveys

Field surveys are the first step in finding out what ecological features are present on site, and therefore inform how to manage them. Everything from bat surveys and badgers, to birds and invasive species - Teire is equipped to survey it.

Reporting

Most projects require Appropriate Assessment screening, with larger projects requiring Ecological Impact Assessments, or Biodiversity Net Gain. Teire is positioned to provide clear reports, fit to accompany planning applications.
